Ian Kang, Music Therapist, Music Educator, Guitarist

Originally from South Korea, Mr. Ian Kang is a music therapist and accomplished guitarist who is passionate about empowering individuals to express themselves through music. His clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents, and young adults with developmental differences, utilizing improvisation, adaptive techniques, and a deeply person-centered approach.

Before pursuing music therapy, Mr. Ian had a successful career as a studio session guitarist, contributing to over 250 recordings. One of the tracks he played on reached No. 1 on the Philippine iTunes chart. As a producer, his music has accumulated millions of streams across major platforms, showcasing his creativity and versatility as a musician.

Mr. Ian earned his degree in Music Therapy from Molloy University, graduating magna cum laude. While there, he was part of a research team exploring musical syntax and how the brain interprets musical structure. He completed his clinical internship at The Rebecca Center for Music Therapy, a renowned Nordoff-Robbins-based program, where he integrated his academic and musical background to support clients’ emotional, social, and developmental growth.

Mr. Ian brings to Hug Music a warm, compassionate presence, exceptional musicianship, and a belief that music has the power to connect, heal, and inspire. His therapeutic philosophy aligns with Hug Music’s mission to celebrate each individual’s uniqueness and foster meaningful growth through music.
