Kana Miyamoto, Music Educator, Flutist, Pianist, Composer,

Kana Miyamoto is a flutist, composer, and dedicated music educator based in New York City, originally from Chiba, Japan. She grew up studying piano from her young age and began studying flute in junior high school. At age 15, she moved to the U.S. after receiving the  “Up-and-Coming Artist Overseas Training” grant from the Agency for Cultural Affairs in Japan. While still in high school, Kana had the  special opportunity to study flute at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas flute studio. She later attended Interlochen Arts Academy, earned her degree from Tokyo College of Music, and continued her studies at The New School in New York City.

As a performer, Kana released her band Kanacept’s debut album, Spring Doze, in 2017, followed by the mini-albums Dancer in the Galaxy (2020) and In the Forest ~ flute and kora field recording project~ (2021). Kana has performed at major venues across New York, including The Jazz Gallery, The Jazz Loft, Nublu, Barbes, and ShapeShifter Lab. In 2024, she won 1st place in the National Flute Association Jazz Artist Competition. She has also received the Queens Arts Fund in 2025.

As a music instructor, Kana has an over 10 years of experience in teaching piano and flute. Her teaching qpproach combines classical, jazz, and contemporary styles, with a focus on strong fundamentals, creativity, improvisation, and music theory. She tailors each lesson to fit her students’ unique goals and encourages a joyful, expressive approach to music. Ms.Kana is excited to meet students at Hug Music and to explore the musical journey together!
